The Illinois Tollway and certain New York toll agencies charge a $.03 transaction fee per transit on the Chicago Skyway if an I-PASS or New York toll agency E-ZPass transponder was used to pay the Skyway toll. The E-ZPass system includes three basic components: a toll transponder issued to each customer that is mounted inside a vehicle an antenna near the entrance to a toll plaza or lane, which reads the transponder and authorizes a deduction to the related account for the toll and toll lane video cameras to confirm the transponder is being used with the right vehicle and to help identify toll evaders.įor a list of toll roads, bridges and tunnels in states that offer E-ZPass, click here. Sure, Miyazaki and Takahata had already dropped a few masterpieces, but the company had several more ahead of them, along with the international fame they would get over the next quarter-century. In 1993, Studio Ghibli was still a relatively young company. It’s in the character detail, the cuts to shots of nature to link episodic memories, the color choices, and more. It’s incredibly subtle here-there’s no fantastical creature design or world creation to make it obvious-but it’s still there. Of course, the Ghibli team also brings a gentle, graceful visual sense to the film that others wouldn’t even consider. Shigeru Nagata’s score is constant, sometimes to a distracting degree in the first half, but it becomes a part of the fabric of the piece overall, and the film wouldn’t work without it. Music is often key in their films-it sets a tone and helps guide the audience. And “Ocean Waves” is worth watching to see just how much a company like Ghibli can bring to a relatively simple tale. An argument could be made that if “Ocean Waves” weren’t animated and starred three CW stars it would be a dull mess.īut it’s not. There’s a fateful trip to Tokyo in which Rikako tries to find her father, and Taku ends up tagging along. ![]() There’s a school trip to Hawaii during which Rikako loses her money and asks to borrow some. It’s an episodic tale of encounters between Rikako and Taku. It’s an even more gentle and often uneventful film than its description might lead you to believe. Yes, the people known for masterful fantasies like “ Princess Mononoke” and “ Spirited Away” made a love triangle drama. He’s immediately seeing this person through the eyes of his friend, which makes it even harder for him to later admit he has feelings for Rikako, for fear that it will break his friendship with Yutaka. Her back is to the window now and so Taku has to take his friend’s opinion of her as fact. Taku first spots Rikako through the eyes of his friend Yutaka, who spotted the alluring young woman through a window. Could it be Rikako, the young woman who changed his life in school just a few years prior? The film then flashes back to Taku’s time in school, focusing on the new girl who shakes everyone up. Taku is a young man at a train station in Tokyo when he spots a familiar face on another platform. It’s a delicate, well-told drama that may lack the depth of something like “Only Yesterday” but proves that Miyazaki and Takahata’s students were listening to their teachers.ĭirected by Tomomi Mochizuki and written by Kaori Nakamura (from a novel by Saeko Himuro), “Ocean Waves” is a story of memory and love. With an incredibly short running time (72 minutes) and deceptively simple story, “Ocean Waves” could feel like a footnote in the Ghibli story but it features qualities of its own as well. Reportedly sprung to life as an opportunity for some of the younger animators at Ghibli to spread their wings, “Ocean Waves” is the first Ghibli film not directed by Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata, although one can see the fingerprints of both gentlemen on the final product. “Ocean Waves” was broadcast on Japanese television in the early ‘90s, but has been hard to find in the United States since then. ![]() viewers with an animated drama from one of the most important film companies in history (now in limited release in NY). ![]() Earlier this year, GKIDS released a restored version of Studio Ghibli’s rarely-seen and masterful “ Only Yesterday,” and they end the year in a similar fashion, digging into the vaults to present U.S. ![]() ![]() In operation from approximately 2011 until 2013, Silk Road was used by numerous drug dealers and other unlawful vendors to distribute massive quantities of illegal drugs and other illicit goods and services to many buyers and to launder all funds passing through it. For ideal efficiency, a solar panel should receive 8 hours of unobstructed sunlight per day. The size and efficiency of the panels determine the solar operator system’s effectiveness, along with the amount of sunlight it receives. One of the most important metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of your solar-powered gate opener will be frequency of use. Here are the factors you should consider in deciding whether a solar gate opener is right for you: Frequency of Use Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s dive deeper. Everything You Need to Know Before Choosing Solar Powered Gate Openers You can also use solar power in combination with a hard-wired gate opener to operate the gate in the event of a power outage. Solar-powered gate openers can also work in conjunction with rechargeable batteries, giving you the option to recharge the battery backup yourself if the solar energy stored is inadequate for regular use. Solar is an effective method of power generation if the opener is in an area that receives ample sunlight. ![]() Because gates are often installed far from a hard-wired power source, users need alternative methods for powering the gate for daily use. If you never plan to roll your paper up and down, you can probably get away with just buying the Impact Support System but having owned these cross bars, I can tell you first hand that they do not work with the Varidrive system used in this build. For this entire system to work flawlessly, you need an aluminum pole that not only fits inside the paper's cardboard core, but the pipe also has to be wide enough to accommodate the Varidrives. Even though each role of paper is mounted to a fairly robust cardboard core, this core will 100% start sagging if you do not properly support it. You really need to place an aluminum pole in the middle of your rolls of paper so that they have the proper support for long term horizontal storage. The nice thing about Savage seamless paper is it comes in a variety of colors and sizes so you can find the exact perfect roll for your studio or on location shooting.įinal Install of 3 Rolls of Seamless Paperįor the final tip, there is one thing you MUST do in order to keep your rolls of paper wrinkle free when mounting permanently. Little known fact, the background in every single Fstoppers video in our first garage studio was shot against a Savage Vinyl backdrop. The paper I have always used is made by Savage which has become the industry standard for seamless paper backdrops. ![]() Now that everything is built, let's talk a little about paper. It might be wise to use a few washers around the heads of the bolts as well. For the particular super clams I bought, the screws needed to mount everything together are machine screws #10-32. The last thing you want is for one side to become loose and have all your rolls of paper come crashing to the ground. There are companies that sell mounting kits that come with super clamps but most of them only come with 1 super clamp per side which seems a little less secure for my taste. The easiest method is to screw each side of your mounting kit into two super clamps. Once you have your Varidrives and your Wall Mounting Kit, you still need a way to attach everything to your Varipoles. In the video I used a simple bubble level to try to get my poles as straight as possible, but looking back, I probably should have just bought an Impact bubble level designed specifically for the Varipoles. For this build, we are going to use a set of Varipoles made by Impact but you can also use more poles to create square rooms if you need to shoot in a corner setup. They are also great for on location shooting when you need to setup a clean background indoors. The mostly widely used application of the Varipole is to mount backgrounds or lights permanently in your studio without having to drill or screw anything into your walls. ![]() You can mount these both vertically or horizontally, as long as you don't overload them, and use them for a whole host of uses. ![]() Varipoles, sometimes called Autopoles, are basically poles that expand and lock into place using compression. But what if you want the best of both worlds: something that wasn't permanent but maximized your usable space without any clutter? Unfortunately these stands often take up valuable space in your studio and can also prevent you from keeping your rolls of paper as close to the back wall as possible. A less intrusive method might be to use a few light stands with a horizontal background bar. If you own your own home, you can permanently install different backdrops from the ceiling or walls by mounting them with screws and lag bolts. You'll smile at how simple it was once you're admiring your handy work. There are dozens of ways to hang backgrounds and seamless paper in your studio space. The process may look complicated, but I promise you it isn't. Please, please feel free to post your questions and I'll do my best to answer them for you.
